TURF FIELD LIGHTING PROJECT
FUNDRAISING GOAL: $415,000
CURRENT TOTAL: $383,000
CURRENT TOTAL: $383,000
In the spring of 2025, Marist Spartan Boosters conducted a survey of Marist Coaches to better understand the challenges our programs face and determine which projects would be the most impactful for our athletes, coaches & programs. Through follow-up with coaches and subsequent research and meetings with industry professionals, the Marist Spartan Boosters identified new stadium lighting for the turf field as our next major fundraising project.
Lighting brightness on the turf field is currently substantially below industry standards. The minimum brightness standard for high school fields, as measured in footcandles, is 30. Footcandle measurements taken on the Marist turf field in May 2025 averaged 12.3. To be blunt, our kids compete in the dark. The field is currently lit by eight 55' poles with fixtures that are more than 30 years old. The lack of adequate lighting is a safety concern for Marist athletes and spectators. In addition, the current lights on the field are energy inefficient and costly to operate.
Our initial construction plan included new lighting installed on the existing poles. However, in just one short month, the response and support from the community far surpassed our initial fundraising goal and positioned us to adjust and upgrade our goal.
As of June 18, we are currently 92% funded toward a complete lighting renovation that will include 4 new 70' poles and new LED fixtures that will bring our average footcandle reading to nearly 40. The project will also included an upgraded sound system for the field. Construction is scheduled to be complete by September 1.
Seven Marist sports teams utilize the turf field for sports games and contests, with a handful more that use it for practices; new lighting will make a difference to a significant number of Marist athletes.
To date, we have secured $383,000 in pledges and gifts, and are just $32,000 shy of our $415,000 goal. Every dollar matters in bringing us closer to our goal, and we are counting on the Marist Community to help us complete this project.
